Pissed Off Brides

As you all know…I sell diamonds in my 9-5 life. It’s a job I love and hate all at once, but it allows me to do my art so the overall feeling is love!

Since the #1 reason people give or receive a diamond is a wedding proposal, I look at a lot of wedding magazines! In general, they are so “sweet” that I rarely find things I like for my mail art in them…but recently I have seen a shift in the female images that I think is interesting.

159398-393779-thumbnail.jpgThe women (who are really girls playing dress up) look pissed off! The new sexy is a heady cocktail of defiance mixed with a jigger of anger and a dash of pout. These women no longer smile coyly into the camera, they stare back out at your from the page as if they want to reach out and smack your face for looking at them…and I think this very, very odd.

I began snipping pictures of pissed off brides with no idea what I would do with them…I mean really…what does one do with a picture of a pissed off woman in bridal attire?!?!?!?! But, at the same time I’ve been working on some abstract backgrounds for another project…when I added the pissed off brides to the swirls of red and orange and black…something clicked! So here you have the Pissed Off Bride series…just in time for the Summer Wedding Season!

159398-393782-thumbnail.jpgI clipped about 25 of these mean heifers so keep looking in your boxes for them…they should be hitting your neighborhoods soon! If anyone else wants to swap some pissed off bride post cards…pick up a magazine and get to cuttin’…send me one and I’ll send you one! I think the next round needs some text…commentary of some sort…a little insight into their smirks. Should be interesting, right?  You can see all of these in the My Design area of this blog...look to the right of this entry and you'll see the link!
