*** The artwork in this post is some general stuff that's come through my mailbox. It's all wonderful...and I thought you'd like to see it!****
There’s so much going on right now it’s making my head spin. Of course, the next issue of The Postal Press (TPP) is coming out soon…and that’s wonderful…but I also had a birthday (June 7th -- #36…and the last of my celebrated birthday’s until 50) and have been struggling to make something out of nothing at work – work (remember, my 9 to 5 job is selling high end
diamonds). It seems summer is taken Minnesota by storm and people are doing everything they can to be outdoors, not shopping, not taking art classes, not working. People are just walking around outside enjoying the sunshine and warmth that we know will not last long enough. So anyway, enough belly-aching, let me tell you wants going on in the studio!
85% of the goodies for the upcoming zine are in and have been put into envelopes. I love oddly shaped cards and making interesting mailing vessels…so that’s the kind of stuff in this issue. I am still waiting on some rubber stamping stuff to arrive and hope that it will make it here by the 15th as promised. If it doesn’t, I will have to move that to the July issue and make some changes to the layout of the zine before we go to print.
I have gotten a few wonderful envelopes back from my Shipping Envelope Call. They are fabulous thus far…you can see them in TPP gallery section here on the blog…and a few scattered in this post.
I hope that the pace of these will pick up closer to the deadline…though it looks like I will have to send out a reminder because so few have come back. One of the most exciting things about the envelopes that have arrived thus far is the range of styles and colors that are represented. They are really incredible and I love going to my mailbox because there’s always something incredible waiting for me there.
I have been playing with color again and have started a series of post cards using fluid acrylic paint by Golden. I have been enjoying color sooo much…especially since my birthday week because I’ve received lots of flowers. (I have a weakness for blooms of all sorts.) They are here in the studio and inspire me to reach for yellow and red over and over again…you’ll see what I mean when you see the mailing envelopes I’ve made for issue #2. Hmmmm…which leads me to a question for those of you who come to check out my funny little blog…. What would you think of my posting pictures of each issue of TPP?
I mean…I can’t help buy wonder…if I show you what they look like on here, why buy them? Then, on the other hand, I think…maybe just a few pics here and there would make people think, ‘wow…I want to see that up close and personal’. Hmmm…I don’t know. The jury is still out.
Lastly…for now anyway, is this…I have to say it. I LOVE POSTCROSSING!!! I have gotten some incredible mail art via postcrossing and made some awesome postal friends. The online system is wonderful and I’m having a ton of fun with it. If you haven’t checked it out, you really should! I got this post card from a young lady who is hoping to go to art school some day. She lives in Finland and is like 16 or something...so much talent!!!! It's watercolor and marker and is really well done...It's my new favorite post card!
