I posted a request for cool art blogs on several Yahoo paper art Group boards...and man oh man...did I get a list!
Honestly, I wasn't sure what I would get, but I got incredible links!!! I am still wading through them all, but it's a good excercise for any blogger. It's helping me to solidify what I think makes a good vs. great blog. I have given that concept a great deal of thought, but working through these links has been a true learning experience.
First think I found...I like lots of pictures....high quality pictures! So I can really see the artwork. I am not a photographer and I'm not very computer savvy so this has been a hard element for me to execute on consistently here on my blog, but I now know that it's important to me and is probably important to other people...so I have to work on that.
I have also found that I don't like dark backgrounds and/or small or oddly colored fonts. I know this may run counter to our artistic sensibilities, but I read more than one blog that made my head hurt because the font was sooooo small or the background to too dark. Now, I will say this...some of those blogs are so good, I read them anyway...but its something that I noticed nonetheless.
Suprisingly, regular updates are nice...but not necessary. I used to think that was the most important thing...but in reality, I found that great artwork...diverse artwork...and interesting links made up for whatever may have been lacking in quantity. I have created a favorite link list in Word...and I can quickly check all my faves by simple clicking on the link...if no update has been made that day, I close that window and click on another link. No harm, no foul.
Addresses for mail artists!!!!! I like when I stumble on to a good mail art blog that the artists' address is in several places and in a readable, cut-and-pastable format. I like being able to C&P the address into my spreadsheet, jot down about note about whatever has caught my eye and move on. I like to swap mail art, but I also like to write to people. If I see something that interests me, I make that artist something and write them a note/letter and send it off. It makes for more meaningful swaps...and I'm more likely to get something cool in return.
So...I think you see, overall...this was a wonderful excercise...and I will keep adding to the list over the next several weeks. I will post updated versions here as I see fit...and highlight artists who give me permission to do so. If you have additional suggestions, please send them......and oh, if I clicked on the link you sent and it didn't work...maybe there was a typo or something...I didn't do any work to figure out the error. I had so many emails it just didn't make sense...so feel free to send it to me again and I'll add it on the next update.

Thank you for posting my blog among these fabulous ones. I am doing the same thing you did. Copy and past the links in Word to be able to examine each one. I also think you are right about addres. I will put mine on the blog.

I would not suggest putting your home address online...not for mail art, not for anything.
Your mail-art is on my BLOG. Also made a link to your BLOG from my list. Yes, a lot out there to look at. Glad to have found yours too. Mail-ARt is a discovery tour. You are going to find out all kind of things.
best wishes,
Ruud
