I HAVE TO JUST SAY THAT I LOVE THE MAIL ART COMMUNITY!

I sent out 51 packets of goodies and envelopes to be altered and 34 of them have come back so far. Now, I must admit, at first I panicked…you see there’s a post where I made 15 envelopes…but now envelopes are really coming back!!!! And several artist have sent extra envelopes!!!  The techniques range from paint to stencils to stickers to rubber stamps and are every color combination that you can imagine.  I also like the themes...birthday, Egyptian, vintage.

Lynn Trochelman sent me FOUR today and they are awesome! They are colorful and whimsical…festive even…and perfect for sending out the issue number 3, the paint and ink issue. She also uses rubber stamps and cool color combinations. 531754-409761-thumbnail.jpg

WWWWwwwwwHHHHHhhoooo for Lynn!!

I also love the envie that came from Liz Funderburk. The color is fabulous and you all know how much I love color. I sent her an email asking how she did it and it sounds simple:

“ Gesso'd the envie, slopped on watered down acrylic paints then "smooshed them under cut up plastic grocery sacs and left the sac in place until it dried. Pull off the sac, layer on another color if you like. Next, use Gloss Medium to adhere the dress patterns. The DNA was stenciled on to the painted area before the pattern was pasted down.”

I have to say that I really enjoy envelope art. I like the various sizes of envelopes &the various colors and textures of “stock” envelopes. I bough some brown kraft-paper looking shipping envies &they are lots of fun because they are very absorbent/sturdy. I like to make envelopes too…to find my own paper &use a template…but the store bought ones are faster/easier &there’s something soothing about taking a store bought item &making it different

I am interested in participating in your mail art journey. How do I get involved. Also, do you know how i could get involved with an altered journal swap?

The easy way to get involoved is to send people mail art. I started with postcrossing really. www.postcrossing.com. I did that because the fall back or saftey net is to send a store bought card. I only send handmade ones to people who request them.

Once I became more comfortable with the scale of mail art...or at least the sizes I feel most comfortable with...I jumped in and did the Brain Cell swap. That provided me with a list of 50 people to send to and that was the beginning of my volume.

I then started posting calls of my own...asking people to send specific things in exchange for specific things. And I love all of it. I'm very, very addicted. (The first step is admitting youhave a problem.)

Now I publish a paper art zine, which is just mail art on crack...in color, lots of pages, plenty of freebies.

Jump in...look at the blogs on the list and send people some art. The Network is pretty kind. If you send something, they will respond. Start with me. Send me a post card...tell me what you're into...and I'll send you something in return.

Every journey starts with a single step.
