Journal Number One
I am super excited about this journal project. I have several journals out right now and more people showing interest. I wasn’t sure people would be interested because of the fee, but as one person put it…”it ensures the books come back and can be enjoyed by all instead of just one…or at least gives me hope”.
I remember when the 1000 journal project started getting press. I wanted so badly to work in one of those books, but the coordinator of the project couldn’t really corral them well enough to control where they went or how long people kept them. I quickly realized it would be only by the grace of God for those journals to return home…and that was disappointing to me. I also look at the Moleskine Project…that project also has a tough time tracking down journals and will loose more than a few along the way.

I have created 5 books thus far. All numbered and being sent to people by request only. They are to be shipped back to 648308-432228-thumbnail.jpg

me unless I request otherwise. I need to know where they are if I have any hope of getting them back, I have another 5 books in the process of being reinforced and prepared for shipping.
I try to pick books that can withstand the wear and tear of international travel and the rigors of artistic expression. I hope that people with realize they have to be very careful with wet techniques and adhesive choices, but this is a learning experience so although hope is not a good strategy, it is the one I have to go with.

If anyone wants to donate a notebook to the project, that would be awesome! I prefer large moleskins or other sewn books with sturdy covers. Please remember weight matters…so heavy bookboard covers are nice, but they are expensive to ship. If you send one I will do my best to reinforce them, but if they are too fragile, I’ll have to make them a US-only book…and most likely a book that is passed by hand…which takes more time than less.

I would also ask that you start the journaling in your book. Take 10 days out of your life and journal. It’s good for you, so try it. Just don’t embellish the cover (front or back) – including the inside cover and first and last page. If that doesn’t make sense, send me an email prior to starting your book and I’ll do a better job of explaining it. Please send the journal (in a Ziploc bag and with Delivery Confirmation) to:

Serendipity, PO Box 46035 , Eden Prairie, MN 55344

If you’d like to be added to the swap list, please send me an email: www.serendipityartist.com and let me know how 648308-432230-thumbnail.jpg

you plan to remit the $15 fee and when you’d like a book. Some folks don’t want to be the first ones to work in a book, some people have vacations coming up and they do or don’t want to take the book with them…whatever…you just have to confirm for me that you have time to work in them and provide me solid contact information.
And FYI…I am ok with you passing the book along to a friend, but you have to be willing to get the book back to me in a timely manner. I want this to be a project where the books come back…and are photographed and shared… and I need your help in this! Every time a book comes back to me I will photograph/scan the pages and send it to the next person on the list.

If you’d like to get another book, please let me know…I will send it if you’ll cover the postage…or at least part of it. I will always send goodies in the package and maybe some other art calls and such…but postage is a big deal. If anyone wants to donate cash for postage, that would be great…or, you can also send stamps! Stamps are as good as gold!!!! Oh, or a prepay priority mail envelope…that would be cool too.

Anyway…I hope lots of people will get involved! I’d like to do a show next year…probably May, June or July…something hands on and in a space where people can sit down and really read the books. Not like a museum or art gallery where you can only look at them…journals are for touching! Please keep this in mind when you’re working in them…use good adhesive and again…watch your wet techniques!

Journal Everyday…its good for you!
